Weighing scale with barcode label printer

Weighing scale with barcode label printer

Weighing scale with barcode label printer
We are currently working on setting up a printing solution for our weighing process and require your assistance in integrating our floor scale with a thermal label printer.
Details of the Setup:
Scale Model: Mettler Toledo BAL-B003 XSR32001L
Printer Model: Zebra ZT231 Thermal Label Printer
Purpose: To print labels automatically after weight capture on the scale
We would like to establish a direct or automated connection between the floor scale and the printer, so that labels are generated and printed immediately after a weight is measured. We are looking for guidance on the following points:
Connectivity Options:
What interface ports are available on the scale for printer connection (e.g., RS232, USB, Ethernet)?
Is it possible to connect directly from the scale to the Zebra ZT231?

You can try to use Zebra Basic Interpreter (ZBI) which is an “on-the-printer” programing language to connect a scale to the printer and print labels, tags, or receipts based on the weight of an item.

For more details, you can refer to page 600 of the Programming Guide via the following link:

The Mettler Toledo BAL-B003 XSR32001L scale is using what language? Is it in line print mode?

In the meantime, you can refer to the following article for steps to activate ZBI:

As for the ZBI manual and programming examples, you can refer to the link below:

Another connecting a Mettler Toledo BAL-B003 XSR32001L Weighing Scale directly to a printer without using any third-party software, we understand your need for a seamless integration. However, please be aware that connecting a printer to a scale is an advanced integration procedure typically handled by our Partners . This service is paid and varies depending on the partner.

From Zebra tech Support end, we can provide you with some general information that may help:

Things to keep in mind:

  1. The printer needs to have a serial port.
  2. Communication between the scale and the printer is done via serial RS-232.
  3. The scale is programmed to send ZPL code.
  4. Typically, the printer has a label format already stored in memory.
  5. The scale only recalls the stored label format and delivers the weight value in kg or pounds, using ZPL format.
  6. Most issues arise when the scale and printer do not match the same serial configuration , which is a requirement.
